DURBAN - Some of the search and rescue teams working on the frontline during KwaZulu-Natal’s deadly floods in April have been recognised for the gruelling work they do.
The province’s recent SAPS Excellence Awards acknowledged some of the many committed men and women in blue.
Cheryl Pillay was awarded Woman of the Year while Warrant Officer Clinton Odayar of the Umhlali K9 Search and Rescue was named Man of the Year.
Provincial police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi gave special awards to top-performing detective Bhekinkosi Ntshangase, as well as the eThekwini detectives’ team responsible for nabbing suspects for the unrest-related Phoenix murders.
All winners will compete at a national level in January.
