SA weather | Brace for cold, snow and rain

JOHANNESBURG - It might be time to get out those blankets you have been stashing for winter.

The Weather Service is warning that it will be cold, snowy and rainy in parts of the country.

Weather forecaster Lehlohonolo Thobela tells us which areas will be most affected.

"Most of the showers and rain are expected in the southern parts of the country, mainly over the Western Cape and Eastern Cape spreading over to KwaZulu-Natal over the weekend," Thobela said.

"With the warnings, we have some strong waves along the coastal areas between Alexander Bay and Cape Agulhas and mostly strong winds over the Central Karoo of the Northern Cape as well as heavy rain expected along the east coast of the Eastern Cape.

"Moving over to the weekend, that's when we see the system bringing most of the cold and the rain to move over the central parts of the country which then would bring about more cold to very cold conditions."

Thobela said temperatures are expected to drop on Saturday.

"Sunday into Monday, that's when you have a widespread chance of showers, especially over the northeastern parts of Mpumalanga all the way to Limpopo."
