JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng has reported 203 babies born in Gauteng on New Yearâs Day.
Of these, 13 were born to teenage mothers.
However, during a visit to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, Gauteng Health MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko was pleased to report that none of the new mothers in that hospital were teenagers.
She praised her department's teenage pregnancy prevention programme for this.
Megan Briede of Save the Children South Africa warns that this does not reflect the wider trends of teenage pregnancy or the true impact of the programme.
