Small businesses want cigarette laws stubbed out

JOHANNESBURG - Tavern owners are fuming over proposed new tobacco laws.

They say the Tobacco Products and Electronic Delivery Systems Control Bill should be stubbed out.

Small businesses say it will be a disaster for township economies.

Bafo Tola from the Eastern Cape Liquor Forum said the bill doesn't address the township situation.

"If you take public outdoor smoking, they say our patrons won't be able to smoke outside the doors or near the windows.

"In townships it's very difficult to address that, it will drive away our patrons," Tola said.
