JOHANNESBURG - For NIH to be successful there has to be practical measures in place for healthcare facilities to expand their access to quality healthcare.
This can be achieved by reducing the volume in the public sector, upgrading infrastructure and building enough hospitals to service the demand.
They must also introduce more doctors and nurses into the system, says MSD Sub-Saharan Africa managing director Zweli Bashman.
This is despite the country's concerns raised by the South African Medical Association about junior doctors who are unemployed despite completing their community service.

About 1800 are said to be part of the jobless group as the Health Department said it's unable to hire the doctors due to budget constraints
In the Eastern Cape doctors marched to the Premier's office in Bhisho over unemployment. They are demanding jobs.
Noting the dire situation Bashman says the discussion needs to be taken away from the procurement of healthcare services and medicine.
However, rather focus on utilizing the budget to invest in infrastructure as well as absorption of health care practitioners into the system
