JOHANNESBURG - South Africa is already struggling with a shortage of qualified teachers.
That problem is expected to get worse when the large cohort of over 55s retire.
But Basic Education denies there's a crisis.
"There is no vacuum," said spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga.
"People are retiring every month and there's a gradual departure of people in the system.
"As people are departing from the system, others are coming through."
