JOHANNESBURG - Experts say studies by academic groups such as the Energy Systems Research Group at UCT, show nuclear has no place in a system delivering least cost and reliable electricity in South Africa.
This follows Minister of Electricity and Energy Kgosientsho Ramokgopa's withdrawal of a gazetted determination for South Africa to procure 2,500 megawatts of new nuclear energy capacity due to legal challenges by environmental activists.
The former Director of the National Nuclear Regulator, Peter Becker discussed this with eNCA.
