CAPE TOWN - There are rising fears that the conflict in the Eastern DRC could embroil a wider region in Central and Eastern Africa.
South Africa has upped the ante, coming close to accusing Rwanda of invating the DRC.
President Cyril Ramaphosa said in a statement current fighting around Goma is the result of an escalation by the rebel group M23 and the Rwanda Defence Force militia engaging the Armed Forces of the DRC.

He also accused Rwandan forces of being among those who attacked peacekeepers from the SADC mission.
Thirteen South Africans soldiers deployed as part of a SADC mission and a UN mission in the DRC have been killed.

On Tuesday, International Relations Minister, Ronald Lamola, said the unauthorized presence of Rwanda Defence Forces is in violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the DRC.
