Civil society wants review of child killer's parole
JOHANNESBURG - Civil society organisations are calling for the immediate review of the decision to allow a convicted child killer on parole.
Marius Van Der Westhuizen murdered his three children in 2006. The former high-ranking police officer used his service pistol in the act. He's served 13 years in prison.
Van Der Westhuizen was granted parole after applying three times to be released. He's set to be paroled on 31 July.
Empowerment group MOSAIC is one of the organisations that lobbied the Department of Correctional Services, NOT to allow Van Der Westhuizen's parole, saying this sends the wrong message.
Mosaic Executive Director Advocate Tarisai Mchuchu-Macmillian believes the parole process wasn't objective.
