Tony Leon weighs in on Rasool's expulsion

JOHANNESBURG - Former South African Ambassador, Tony Leon, has weighed in on the diplomatic fallout between South Africa and the United States.

Ebrahim Rasool’s comments about President Donald Trump and the "Make America Great Again" movement saw him expelled from the USA.

While Rasool's remarks haven't helped the situation, Leon says South Africa needs to re-evaluate a foreign policy stance, which he says has failed to adapt to shifting international dynamics.

Leon said, "While there may be several candidates who could fit the role, having a diplomatic superstar isn't enough. Effectiveness and discretion are important, but the real issue is the situation itself. We should use this crisis as an opportunity to take a deeper look at our agenda—how we're advancing it, our positions, and whether our policies truly serve the country's interests."
