JOHANNESBURG - 23 South Africans are back home after being held captive in Myanmar for over four months.

They were among thousands of people lured to Thailand under false pretenses and promised lucrative jobs that never existed.

Instead, they were trafficked into a cybercrime compound, forced into online scams, and tortured.

The International Relations and Cooperation Department, together with the border management authority, facilitated their repatriation.

Authorities are now warning South Africans to be extra cautious when considering job offers abroad.
