JOHANNESBURG - The relationship between South Africa and the United States is strained.
The Trump administration has implemented executive orders impacting humanitarian aid in South Africa, while AfriForum and Solidarity are in the US to discuss Afrikaner rights.
The Afriforum "Civil Rights Charter" mentions Section 235 of the Constitution as a constitutional right the group supports.
What does Section 235 of the Constitution say about self determination?
Constitutional Law expert Professor Pierre de Vos unpacked this with eNCA explaining what the section says, "It starts by saying that the people of South Africa, jointly has a right to self-determination reflecting the international law position that emerged during the decolonisation process on our continent."
"But that it does not preclude recognising the notion of self-determination of a group that shares a language and culture within the South African terrority or some other way as regulated by parliament," he said.
