Zimbabwe presidential and parliamentary elections to take place next week

HARARE - Zimbabweans will be voting in the presidential and parliamentary elections next Wednesday, 23 August.

The country's Electoral Commission on Wednesday held an observer’s briefing.

It insists that its ready to conduct the 2023 vote, despite numerous election-related court cases.

On Monday High Court Judge Never Katiyo dismissed a court appeal by Citizens Coalition for Change's chief elections officer, saying it was not urgent.

The presidential race is largely between incumbent President Emmerson Mnangagwa of ZANU-PF and Nelson Chamisa, a 45-year-old lawyer who heads the country's largest opposition party.
