JOHANNESBURG - Non-profit organisation Jozi My Jozi is eager to join the Presidential Working Group to revitalise the city.
The President announced its establishment after a visit to the city left him disappointed.
Innocent Mabusela from Jozi My Jozi says they will work with government to restore the city but, they will priorities infrastructure within the inner city of Joburg.
This includes fixing sidewalks, installing lights and cameras where it is dark and people walk, as well as refurbishing hijacked buildings.
Mabusela says prioritising infrastructure will attract business back into the inner and make the city safe.
The city Johannesburg, is under immense pressure to address the governance failures, financial mismanagement, crumbling infrastructure, crime and lawlessness and unreliable service delivery that plague the city.
This is as it is due to host the G20 summit later this year.
While work to fix the city of gold is underway ahead of the summit, Mabusela said efforts need to be made to make these developments long-term.
Among the suggestions he put in place include involving local communities staying in the inner city, as they play a huge role in ensuring that the city is clean.
At the same time, the government must work closely with civil organisations already doing work.
