PRETORIA - A defence lawyer in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial intends to call the slain footballer’s brother-in-law to testify.

Mlungisi Hlophe has said it was not an intruder who killed the Bafana star.

The court previously heard that he'd said in a statement that witness Tumelo Madlala phoned to tell him Meyiwa had been shot as he tried to intervene in a fight between Zandile Khumalo and her then boyfriend, Longwe Twala.

But the High Court in Pretoria declined to admit Hlophe’s statement.

Despite Madlala insisting he saw the gunman, and that Meyiwa pinned the man against a wall before the firearm went off, he says he doesn’t know who killed his friend.

The trial is adjourned to Thursday.
