JOHANNESBURG - The blame game is playing out in the Sassa grant payout debacle.
The ministers of social development and communications attempted to address why social grants remain unpaid for thousands of recipients.

There was acknowledgment of the scale of the Sassa social grants payout debacle.
But there was also defending the time it took for government to formally intervene as thousands of South Africa’s most vulnerable were at their lowest.
This is not the first time that there are failures in paying out recipients. But there appears to still not be a contingency plan to ensure this doesn’t happen again.
And, as thousands have had to borrow money and go into debt to make up for September’s shortfall, they will continue the month in the knowledge that no one will be held accountable.
