What you need to know about Sassa card swap deadline extension

JOHANNESBURG - Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni has confirmed the deadline for beneficiaries to migrate their Sassa cards has been extended to 30 April.

Initially the government had set the deadline for the transition to the new Sassa black card to 28 February, and a second extension was given until 20 March 2025.

But, according to Sassa National spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi, less than half of the 2.6-million Sassa beneficiaries have migrated.

Letsatsi admitted that there were issues that have impacted the ability to successfully complete the migration.

These included limited human resources as well as too few sites operating.

“In some instances, there were about two tellers operating and we agreed with Postbank to increase them. Secondly there were also few sites on the ground where people can go and exchange their cards.”

“But Postbank has committed that they will make sure that they open more sites,” he said.

Letsatsi has continued to urge beneficiaries to migrate, asking them not to wait until the last moment to exchange their cards.
