JOHANNESBURG - It may be a wet Christmas this year.
Severe thunderstorms are expected across large parts of the country this long weekend.
Eastern parts of the Northern Cape, North West, Free State, Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and Limpopo provinces have been warned to expect heavy downpours and strong winds.
"We are expecting a bit of a wet Christmas," sakd Kgolo Mahlangu from the SA Weather Service.
"We have Level 2 warning for thunderstorms over the southeastern parts of Mpumalanga and that means we can expect a little bit of hail to come with it.
"Some strong winds in places and heavy downpours which could lead to localised flooding, especially in low-lying areas."
