JOHANNESBURG - Barely a month after an Imbizo and increased police visibility, residents of Westbury in Johannesburg are once again accusing the police of failing them.
A 19-year-old man was shot and killed in the area on Tuesday, sparking fears of more violence.
It's the second shooting in two weeks.
Residents say Police Minister Bheki Cele's promises have failed to materialise.
About nine teams have been deployed here, including the tactical response team and members of the anti-gang unit.
Residents say their presence here has done little to quell the shootings and many continue fearing for their lives.
But the police have defended themselves.
"People they can say they don't see them but what we know they are there," said Gauteng Police Commissioner Elias Mawela.
