WATCH | Unions want taxi owners to be recognised as employers

JOHANNESBURG - The South African Federation of Trade Unions is demanding that the taxi industry be formally recognised, protected and regulated.

The union has written to Employment and Labour Minister Thulas Nxesi to begin the process, saying the department has a responsibility to protect these workers. 

They’ve given the minister until Tuesday to respond to their demands or they’ve promised to take the matter to court.
