PRETORIA - The Home Affairs Department is throwing the spotlight on syndicates buying South African IDs from drug addicts and similarly desperate people.
The green ID books are then sold – often to foreign nationals.
Most recently, a Pakistani national was busted for being part of a racket drawing in desperate South Africans to sell their IDs.
Meanwhile, a criminal expert warns this criminal operation poses a huge threat - particularly to the legitimacy of 2024’s national elections.
