JOHANNESBURG - The release of the fourth quarter GDP results have revealed that mining sector activity has risen by 2.4%.

Stats SA has attributed this to stronger production figures for platinum group metals, chromium ore, coal and diamonds. However iron ore and gold were down.

Minerals Council South Africa CEO, Mzila Mthenjane, says the sector needs to untap its power to stimulate the economy, and deliver social benefits that will restore SA's dignity.
