JOHANNESBURG - Deputy President Paul Mashatile says his clean record of over four decades speaks to his leadership.
He says he's never stolen from anyone or been involved in acts of corruption.
He was speaking to JJ Tabane on Power To Truth.
"I don't steal, I've never been involved in corruption," he said.
"You can check my history of the last 40 years in the ANC. My record is just straightforward."
Mashatile said his biggest strength is to help people.
"That's my job, I help people."
At the same time, Mashatile defended his friendship with controversial businessman Edwin Sodi.
He says he's never received a cent from him, although he's donated to the ANC before.
This was revealed during testimony at the State Capture Commission.
Sodi has also been linked to the R255-million asbestos project in the Free State.
"If Edwin Sodi has done something wrong, it doesn’t matter that he knew Mashatile for some years, he’ll be protected, no we don’t protect anybody," Mashatile said.
"If there’s wrongdoing we must intervene."
Mashatile said Sodi in the past contributed to the ANC.
"There was a story in the newspaper that he gave money to me, which is not true."
