JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng Economic Development and Finance MEC, Lebogang Maile, calls for harsh and long sentences for perpetrators of gender-based violence.
He says they should be denied the right to apply for bail. He's also urging victims to refrain from dropping cases.
Police Officer, Mandla Buthelezi, appeared at Protea Magistrate's Court on a charge of shooting and killing his 22-year-old girlfriend.
His case was postponed to 26 February for further investigations.
In attendance was Sello Mabelebele of Action SA who said the country needs a reformed political system which will assist gender-based violence survivors.
City of Johannesburg former Margaret Arnolds said the government must establish a safe environment in which women can report abuse.
