JOHANNESBURG - Former Joburg mayor Kabelo Gwamanda has addressed allegations against him regarding a fraud case.
The Community Development MMC has been placed on special leave after being charged with fraud.
Speaking on eNCA's Power to Truth show, Gwamanda told JJ Tabane that the victims’ aim was more on his incarceration rather than seeking compensation, as some had already been reimbursed.
“If I owe them, and they were one of the people I wasn’t able to fully reimburse, I was from inception willing to cover that. The objective was to get Gwamanda incarcerated, that was the only objective,” he said.
Gwamanda expressed confusion over the complainant's identity out of the 25 people he allegedly defrauded.
“I don’t even know who that complainant is, even at this point I have no idea. I can’t even find out who the complainant is because then I would be victimising them, intimidating, or trying to defeat the ends of justice,” he added.
