JOHANNESBURG - South Africa is on the cusp of record-breaking Stage 7 blackouts.
That's according to energy analyst Ted Blom.

Eskom earlier implemented Stage 6 blackouts until further notice.
The embattled power utility says it's been unable to deal with the high number of breakdowns since Tuesday night.

Its emergency generation reserves are also not enough and are being preserved.
"If they don't resolve Stage 6 by tomorrow [Thursday], we'll move to Stage 7 because we're about to lose another 1,000MW when they take unit 1 of Koeberg down for refurbishment for six months," he said.
"So yes, we're on the cusp of record-breaking Stage 7 load-shedding."
