JOHANNESBURG - Cope's City of Johannesburg region has rejected the suspension of Chair of Chairs Colleen Makhubele.
That's after the party's Gauteng Interim Provincial Committee suspended her with immediate effect.
This has been detailed in a letter to Cope's Provincial Interim Coordinator Mxolisi Ntobela.
The Joburg region says the Gauteng committee is a parallel structure formed without proper regard for the party's constitution. It, therefore, has no decision-making powers.
The letter demands a retraction of Makhubele's suspension by Thursday, failing which they will take court action.
Makhubele attempted to convene a council meeting earlier this month, referring to herself as the acting speaker.
A court ruled the move unlawful and invalid.
