JOHANNESBURG - KwaZulu-Natal disaster management teams are on high alert following a warning of heavy downpours in that province.
The South African Weather Service says severe thunderstorms are expected in Umzinyathi, iLembe and King Cetshwayo districts.
It is warning of damaging winds, excessive lightning and heavy rains that could trigger localised flooding and damage to infrastructure.
Communities in the above-mentioned districts are urged to take all necessary precautions.
KZN has not fully recovered yet from the devastating April floods that killed hundreds of people, demolished houses and caused substantial damage to infrastructure.
The provincial COGTA department says inclement weather conditions have already started.
Disaster teams have been placed in affected districts to respond quickly should the need arise.
