JOHANNESBURG - The involvement of high-ranking police officials in kidnappings puts a spoke in the wheel of investigators.
That’s according to Willem Els, from the Institute for Security Studies.
Eleven suspects have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping of a businessman in Kuilsrivier in the Western Cape.
"These groups are very sophisticated. We see that they are even targeting people with huge payouts," he said.
"They are well organised. In the first place, it is difficult to do investigations as police if you are compromised.
"That is why we see SSA has been deployed in order to assist.”
