JOHANNESBURG - People in Gauteng woke early on Sunday morning to heavy shaking and rumbling.
A moderate earthquake hit parts of the province at 2.38am.
People took to social media, questioning the trembling and loud noise.
Many also posted pics of damage to homes on the East Rand.

The US Geological Survey says the earthquake had a preliminary magnitude of 5.0.
It says it struck about 10 kilometres below the surface, about 16 kilometres southeast of Johannesburg.
It places the epicentre around Katlehong on the East Rand.
People have reported feeling tremors as far off as Pretoria.
