Their families laid wreaths to commemorate them.

Gauteng's Police Commissioner cautioned that the men and women in blue are under siege in the province.

Provincial commissioner Elias Mawela said, "We are this month September, it's regarded as safety month as an officer but when I look at the numbers, already we've lost a lot of members this morning when we count we lost more than five officers who died on the line of duty. "

The province's Community Safety MEC Faith Mazibuko is calling on communities to help.

She said, "if communities rose and united and assist each other and assist the very same police that they are attacking. I am hundred percent sure that we can be able to route out criminals within our communities. These criminals don't fall from heaven they live amongst us.

Families have been asked to continue visiting the wall of remembrance at the Linden police station in Johannesburg, to remember these fallen heroes.
