Three hospital staffers among 15 dead following Boksburg blast

JOHANNESBURG - At least 15 people have lost their lives and several others were injured after a gas tanker exploded in Boksburg on Saturday.

The nearby Tambo Memorial Hospital remains functional, but it's not accepting any new patients.

Sadly, three of its staffers are among the deceased.

Authorities said 24 patients and 13 staffers were injured in the blast.

Damage at the hospital is also severe.

The Accident and Emergency Unit and the X-ray Departments are where most of the damage occurred.

Ceilings have collapsed, windows shattered and some equipment damaged.

Meanwhile, police have arrested the 32-year-old driver of the gas tanker.

The 32-year-old suspect faces multiple counts of culpable homicide and is expected to appear in court on 28 December.
