Thabo Bester | Popcru happy about re-arrest of fugitives

JOHANNESBURG - Prisons union Popcru is happy that rapist and murderer Thabo  Bester has been re-arrested.

Arrangements are being made with Tanzania to have Bester and his partner, Dr Nandipha  Magudumana, returned to South Africa, following their arrest on Friday night.

The pair have been on the run since his escape from the Mangaung correctional facility prison was exposed last month.

Popcru's Richard Mamabolo said, "we are quite happy about the re-arrest."

"It has obviously created a negative public perception around the correctional facilities, as well as, the diminishing trust in the criminal justice cluster in its entirety."

"We welcome the news and recognise this will bring relief to victims of Bester and the general public. What is quite worrying is during past week we had G4S still denying that Thabo Bester had escaped."
