Thabo Bester | G4S: Officials failed to follow procedures

CAPE TOWN - G4S says two officers failed to follow procedures when rapist Thabo Bester escaped from the Mangaung Correctional facility.

The security company appeared in Parliament on Wednesday to account for the escape.

G4S director, Cobus Groenewoud says there were power interruptions in the block where Bester was held.

The Mangaung prison says it does not have a plan for what it will do should Thabo Bester return to the correctional facility.

Parliament's committee on correctional services is probing the circumstances around the escape.

Meanwhile, G4S Audit and Risk Director, Gert Beyleveld says officials who were suspended after Thabo Bester escaped will be facing the full might of the law.

Beyleveld has testified that security officials were removed from their posts on the night Bester fled.
