Taxi chaos | Standoff between taxi operators and eThekwini metro

DURBAN - The uMhlanga CBD was  brought to a standstill on Tuesday.

Minibus taxi operators and eThekwini metro police clashed over taxi ranking space.

Taxis blocked major routes going in and out of the area.

The new Oceans Mall in Umhlanga doesn't have a taxi rank so operators have been using the side of the road as a temporary taxi rank.

The Umhlanga Rocks Drive near the bridge and the M4 on and off-ramps, have been closed.

The eThekwini Municipality recently held a meeting trying to find an amicable solution for the bus and taxi ranks in the area.
