JOHANNESBURG - The South African Weather Service predicts cold temperatures will prevail across the country.
Temperatures are dropping, and a cold front is bringing snow to some locations.
Wits University's Jennifer Fitchett, says snowfall has occurred before in Johannesburg and it's not unprecedented.

Fitchett said, "The areas such as Lesotho will experience about eight to 10 snowfalls in the highlands per year."
"We don't experience it that far north in Johannesburg unless we've had the kind of conditions we have observed in the past 24 hours."
"In Johannesburg, snow doesn't last very long, usually just a couple of hours and it doesn't settle on the ground for very long."
"In terms of how long these very cold conditions and the snow will persist, you'd need to then look to the forecast from the South African Weather Service."
"Certainly, the cold conditions associated with the cold front can persist for a couple of days."
