JOHANNESBURG - Emergency services remain on high alert, as the threat of flash floods persists in Gauteng.
Weather forecasters have warned residents to brace for more heavy rain.
Many in low-lying areas are being urged to take the necessary precautions.
Emergency Services Management's Robert Mulaudzi said, "we're still continuing to urge our motorists out there to try and avoid areas which might be flooded, be it bridges or roads which might be flooded, since we are told that we're still going to receive a lot of rainfall throughout the city, and also our residents who are residing along most of our river streams, be it Jukskei, Kaalfontein and also Klip Valley to try and avoid crossing these river streams as and when they are conducting their day-to-day activities and also to monitor young kids to stay away from river streams so that we can be able to prevent incidents where people might be washed away, and also our residents who are normally conducting baptism rituals in most of our river streams."
"The water levels now are much more higher, we want to urge our residents to stay away from river streams, so that we can be able to prevent incidents where people might be washed away while they are conducting cleansing of baptism rituals."
