JOHANNESBURG - Diepkloof hostel residents are threatening to return to the streets if government doesn’t come up with a plan on Wednesday.
They were left fuming on Tuesday after a planned meeting with the Human Settlement MEC fell through.
They are demanding proper housing, saying the hostel is on the brink of collapsing.
Housing MEC Lebohang Maile visited the hostels to engage community members.
But his meeting didn't go as planned when he was whisked away due to an alleged security threat.
Maile has promised to return on Thursday but residents aren't convinced.
In the meantime, a heavy police presence remains in the area as residents vow to return to the streets if Maile fails to honour his commitment.
