Security beefed up at borders ahead of Easter rush

PRETORIA - With the Easter weekend just days away, our borders will soon start getting jam-packed.

The Border Management Authority has deployed an additional 400 junior guards at ports of entry.

It says it's managed to stop almost 300,000 people from entering illegally since its inception.

"We continue to engage all our six neighbours as it were," said Border Management Authority Commissioner Dr Mike Masiapato.

"For example out of the six, in the first instance around the sighting in extending the collaboration of hours our main port with Zimbabwe is one, and that is Beitbridge.

"It operates on a 24-hour basis so on that basis that 24-hour model is already embedded with Zimbabwe, so there is no need to synchronise with them.”
