JOHANNESBURG -  An Eskom board member says they found out about the private investigation of the utility in January.

Claudelle von Eck says that's when former CEO Andre Ruyter told them about the probe.

She was answering to Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts on Wednesday morning.

Von Eck said, "the time when Mr de Ruyter had mentioned to us that there was an investigation was the evening of the 17th of January."

"The first induction day I think was on the 1st of November 2022, then we continued in January because there was so much that we needed to go through."

"As it was mentioned yesterday, Mr de Ruyter had mentioned an investigation but did not give us any of the details around the investigation."

"The next question would be around the time that we made a decision after the interview that the notice period would be changed back to the original notice period which would have been the end of February 2023."

"It is important to stress that there has been noise around that, that has blurred things a little bit."

"The one that it was a dismissal and it was not. Mr de Ruyter had already reigned in December. the other question that we need to clarify there is this constant talk about the report that we would have been able to get from Mr de Ruyter."

"At the time when we made the decision there was no indication of a report from Mr de Ruyter at all."
