Sassa officials face probe in pensions theft

JOHANNESBURG - According to the SIU, over a hundred Sassa officials are under investigation for fraud and various other irregularities.

So far, over R2-million has been recovered, with letters of demand served on over 30 suspects.

As elderly people and other beneficiaries continue to be robbed of their pension grants, two families have now reached out to eNCA in desperation.

They were shocked and had to leave empty-handed when their attempts to access their accounts at the end of the month proved unsuccessful.

eNCA is in possession of documents showing how money is being taken out of Sassa beneficiaries' accounts.

The document shows that over R10,000 was withdrawn from the beneficiary's account over a five-month period.

While Sassa acknowledges this is a long-standing issue, the social security agency insists that grants are safe in bank accounts.

Black Sash is calling on the Social Development Minister to address this matter urgently.
