Sassa grants | Pensioners queue for days

JOHANNESBURG - Many pensioners' only income is Sassa grants and being unable to get the money from Post Offices will lead to greater food insecurity.

That is the warning from Wendy Pekeur, from the NGO, Ubuntu Rural Women and Youth Movement.

She was speaking after thousands of pensioners stood in lines for days on end this week due to poor conditions at Post Offices.

"What we know is that most of the people that stand in these long lines, the only income is their Sassa grant," Pekeur said.

"[They] can't get their money because it is going to lead to greater food insecurity because that is the only money people get."
