SA's water crisis | Water department requests blackouts exemption

PRETORIA - The Water and Sanitation Department is set to hold a meeting with Electricity Minister Kgosientso Ramokgopa.

The meeting is aimed at exempting water treatment plants and pump stations from power cuts.

Many communities across Gauteng have been battling dry taps in recent weeks as ageing infrastructure and blackouts hamper water availability.

Water and Sanitation Minister Senzo Mchunu met with mayors in the province.

He said Rand Water is not able to meet the demands of the province's consumers.
