SA’s water crisis | Thousands spent per month on Hammanskraal water tankers

HAMMANSKRAAL - It's costing the City of Tshwane R200,000 per water tanker per month to provide clean water to residents of Hammanskraal.

In May, a cholera outbreak resulted in the deaths of almost 30 people with 166 confirmed cases.

Residents say the water coming out of their taps still looks dirty.

One community leader says residents are cautiously optimistic that they will have clean water in their taps someday.

The Public Protector has given the city 60 days to ensure the implementation of Phase 1 of the Rooiwal Wastewater Treatment plant upgrades.

In the meantime, the city is forking out thousands of rands for potable water.
