SA's water crisis | Nelson Mandela Bay begs for electricity

GQEBERHA - Drought-stricken Nelson Mandela Bay is calling on Eskom to exempt it from rolling blackouts.

The water woes in Gqeberha have been exacerbated by power cuts.

The municipality's director of Water Distribution, Joseph Tsatsire says they've reached out to the power utility, but their efforts have been met with excuses.

"One of the biggest problems is that one of our only plants that is on the chrome system that supplies the western side is being load-shedded, we cannot afford to lose production on that at any given point in time," he said.

"So, to load-shed us will continue to put the system under strain."
