JOHANNESBURG - Does a draft informal settlements policy suggest government is losing the battle to provide formal housing to residents?
That’s the burning question as the City of Johannesburg undertakes its own policy framework, separate from national government.
It's designed to manage the mushrooming of informal settlements around the metro. The document aims to provide a framework for the management, long-term development, and upgrading of informal settlements across the city.
The city's Human Settlements MMC Mlungisi Mabaso held a public meeting in Finetown to discuss the policy.
eNCA reporter Hloni Mtimkulu was there and filed this report.
