SA's electricity crisis | Joburg gets a break from power cuts

JOHANNESBURG - As the city of Johannesburg works on mop-up operations after the recent flash floods, Eskom has granted parts of the city exemption from load-shedding.

City authorities have welcomed the move saying this gives them time to work on restoring power in affected areas.

"It is also not a load-shedding holiday we are getting as a city, there is a contact point in the Roodepoort area and that part of Roodepoort will get a reprieve to get a gap to work and push ahead with our work," said Michael Sun, City of Joburg Infrastructure MMC.

"Other residents in the area must not think that we have got a blanket load-shedding holiday from Eskom because there are other issues across the country that need to be dealt with. But this short reprieve will assist us in getting all the outages restored."

City Power earlier this week said it was dealing with over 4,000 service calls related to outages.
