SA’s electricity crisis | Gqeberha's plan to keep the lights on

GQEBERHA - The days of relying on Eskom are over.

That's the view of Nelson Mandela Bay mayor Retief Odendaal who was speaking at the launch of the Parsons Power Park in Gqeberha on Thursday.

The 150-megawatt project will cost in the region of R2.7-billion and is expected to provide reliable electricity at an affordable price in the metro.

Authorities in the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality are hoping that the project is a resounding success in a region that is grappling with an ongoing drought.

The first phase of the power park is expected to take 10 months with construction expected to start in November.
