SA’s electricity crisis | Eskom scrambling for diesel

JOHANNESBURG - It's back to the drawing board for Eskom and the government.

The power utility will need another R6-billion to buy diesel in February and March.

Eskom announced in December that it had run out of money to buy diesel and had already depleted its fuel budget.

"They still have to do something about February and March," said energy expert Chris Yelland.

"They have exceeded their budget considerably and they are scrambling around now with government trying to find money to procure more diesel for February and March.

"End of March is their financial year and then the new budget kicks in," he said.
