JOHANNESBURG - Government is considering plans to slow down the decommissioning of coal-fired power stations in the country.
President Cyril Ramaphosa met with his cabinet on Wednesday to discuss the current state of the electricity system and progress on the Energy Action Plan.
It is believed Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa's plan to slow down the retirement of old coal power stations was discussed.

Cabinet has called for further assessment of the grid and measures to be taken which will be dealt with at the next National Energy Crisis Committee meeting.
A delay in the shutting down of coal-fired facilities would go directly against government's climate commitments and could put financing from other countries at risk.
